The hybrid timber construction office building "The Cradle" is currently being realized in København MedienHafen (Media Harbour). Soil & Building Ground Engineering constructed the excavation pit for the building. The work included the construction of a secant bored pile wall using the double-head drilling method as well as a total of 375 micropiles for permanent uplifting protection. Due to the soil conditions and the enormous water pressure caused by the proximity of the Rhine, this was an exceptional challenge. The twelve-meter-deep excavation pit had to withstand enormous pressure and therefore had to be secured to an above-average degree. In addition, the excavation pit was strut-braced using a hydraulic propping system and extensive underwater concrete work was carried out.
